Emergency Services

In an emergency, dial 999

The operator will ask you which service you require:

Ambulance for severe illness or injury.

Fire Service for fire or any accident or incident where victims may be trapped.

Police for serious crime, violent crime, serious traffic incident, accident involving serious injury.

There are other emergency services, e.g. Mountain Rescue, who can be contacted as necessary by any of the main three services.

The operator will need your name and possibly other details when they put you through to the required service.

If you are not sure which service you need, they will advise you.

Once you are connected:

Try to remain calm
Answer any questions you are asked.
If you are not sure were you are, look around for any road names, road signs, shop names or landmarks that might help identify your location.
If you are calling from a public phone, your call should be traced and your location identified.
Follow any instructions you are given.
Do not hangup until you are told to.

If you are not sure that you need Emergency Services, dial 999 anyway. You will be advised by the operator.
